(Sorry if the picture is crap, it is the only one I can find.)
This is Lucie. She is my pet Boxer, just turned 4 in April. I had her ever since she was a puppy. I came home from school one day to see her running around in the living room. From there on, we both became good friends.
I’ve watched her grow up.
She loved to play. Her favourite toy was her green ball with stars. She loved to chew it and play fetch with it. Her favourite treat is chews. She’d always used to stare at where they were kept. It’s hard to not give one to her. Her mouth waters whenever I put her meat in her food bowl. She used to be so friendly, I taught her to give you a hug whenever you tap on your chest.
But, she started drinking more. A lot more than what she should.
We then moved to Dufftown.
She started getting skinnier and skinner, drinking more and more. We took her to the vet. After several tests, the results came in.
Her kidneys were smaller than what the average Boxer dog’s should be, and slowly, they were failing.
The vet, called Sam, gave Lucie medication.
We continued with the medication, and this was over a month ago.
She didn’t want to eat. She would sleep all the time. She has no energy left. She’d shiver. She was so skinny you can see every bone in her body. I’m scared to touch her because she just looks so fragile.
My other two dogs, Pepper and Roxy were sensing that something was wrong. They’d cuddle into her to keep her warm.
On Wednesday, May 30th. We’ll be taking her to the vet. To see Sam again.
But she won’t be coming home.
This isn’t a plea for sympathy. I simply want Lucie to be remembered.
And I need to get it off of my chest too, writing about it is the only way I can think of doing that.
She is an amazing dog. You may be thinking “she is just a dog, why are you getting so upset about it?”
If you are thinking that, then leave. You don’t understand the pain of loosing a pet, a best friend. It will be sad to see her go. But it is for the best, she won’t be in pain any more, she’ll be in a better place.
May the days she has left be good ones. May she see that this is for the best.
Merherherherherher.
